OUTGOING CALL TO BRENT ROCHA:

(phone ringing)

Brent ROCHA: Hello

Scott PETERSON: Hey, Brent, Scott.

Brent ROCHA: Hey, Scott.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, trying to find the Enquirer, but I couldn’t…so I don’t know exactly what this article says but the most important thing obviously from, you know, when you called this morning is, you know, it’s…

Brent ROCHA: Has anyone brought it up to your attention?

Scott PETERSON: What’s that?

Brent ROCHA: Has anyone else brought it up to your attention?

Scott PETERSON: The article?

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: Just mom and then I, you know, I was wondering why there was a sign that the center was closed today when I was there this morning. And I tried to call some people, but I talked to Terry  and found out..

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, well apparently um.. there’s pictures of you and the girl…

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: …together.

Scott PETERSON: Um-hum.

Brent ROCHA: So we know that’s true, right?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, there was an encounter.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. So I mean knowing that … I mean what can you tell me about my sister to make me understand that you’re telling the truth and that I can still support you?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, I mean I .. I know that, you know, how happy we were together and that, you know, never changed or wavers.

Brent ROCHA: Right.

Scott PETERSON: And you know. I..you know, I don’t know if you can believe me. Um..I certainly hope you can, I hope you know me well enough but I…

Brent ROCHA: I want…I want..

Scott PETERSON: We’re looking for her and we need to find her and…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: You know, I’m obviously devastated, you know, and I had nothing to do with her disappearance and it’s hard to…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, and you think that girl…

Scott PETERSON: I can help the media, but I can’t lose, you know, the rest of my family?

Brent ROCHA: And do you think that girl had something to do with it?

Scott PETERSON: No, she…she didn’t.

Brent ROCHA: She didn’t?

Scott PETERSON: No, she couldn’t have. She didn’t know about Laci.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. And then obviously there’s no financial motive with the life insurance because you’re not gonna be able to collect on that,  right?

Scott PETERSON: I don’t know. I hadn’t thought of it.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: I guess not. Yeah, I don’t care.

Brent ROCHA: Um.. so then I’m just trying to understand. My point of view is  your motive. I mean, like were you happy to have this baby coming?

Scott PETERSON: Oh, absolutely, Conner. Come on, you know that.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: I mean, we’ve…I mean that would be wonderful.

Brent ROCHA: Then, I mean…because I mean…it looks like they’re out to nail you right now.

Scott PETERSON: Oh, of course they are.

Brent ROCHA: And…and we’ve been standing up for you.

Scott PETERSON: I know it.

Brent ROCHA: And now I feel like we’re kinds… I don’t know what to believe, you know what I’m saying?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: And uh…

Scott PETERSON: Well, I mean it’s uh…

Brent ROCHA: Because I mean look the article says there’s blood spots on the kitchen floor, blood spots in your truck, I think. Um..it talks  about the woman whoever called the Modesto Police, uh..it talks about a large life insurance policy. Uh..and then they talk about cement in your uh…shop that’s used for uh…I don’t know anchors or something.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, I made a boat anchor with some cement and then I put some in the driveway here, yeah.

Brent ROCHA: So they’re just piecing all this together?

Scott PETERSON: Piecing together.

Brent ROCHA: Circumstantial?

Scott PETERSON: Well, I mean there’s the cement, yeah. The police has asked me a lot about that.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. So they’ve already asked you about this stuff?

Scott PETERSON: What’s that?

Brent ROCHA: The police has already asked you about this stuff?

Scott PETERSON: Oh, yeah, yeah. And I’ve never heard about these blood spots or anything like that. Um...you can look on…you know, when they served the warrant here?

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: And they give you an itemized list of everything?

Brent ROCHA: Um-hum.

Scott PETERSON: Um..they do mention that they had one suspect blood spot on an exterior door that turned out negative.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know. So I mean if that helps you, you know, know how inneffi…how unfactual this article is in a lot of respects.

Brent ROCHA: Hey, it’s coming from the Enquirer so you know what I mean? Who knows what this thing…

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, I mean, you know, I was looking at the Enquirer of the 21st article…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, I read that too. Today is the first day I’ve ever read any of this stuff.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah. You know so...but it’s embarrassing and, you know, wrong.

Brent ROCHA: And then it said something about…

Scott PETERSON: And it talked about this encounter with this girl.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. So that part is true, huh?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, yeah, that’s true.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. Well um…so you don’t…

Scott PETERSON: ___________________(inaudible)

Brent ROCHA: No, I understand. I’m not…I’m not, you know, saying anything. But uh…I mean it’s one thing not to be happy, but it’s another thing to, you know, do something to someone that…

Scott PETERSON: You know Laci and I are happy together.

Brent ROCHA: Huh?

Scott PETERSON: You know Laci and I are happy together.

Brent ROCHA: You know, ever time I saw you…I told you, Scott, the day after she left she loved you so much and she I mean totally adored you. Um. I mean she had always had positive…

Scott PETERSON: We both did. I mean…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, I mean what do you think happened?

Scott PETERSON: I’m thinking about what kind of father I was gonna be. It  was gonna be great.

Brent ROCHA: Now…okay, is there anything else like this person, this woman, I mean is there anything else out there that might throw us off…catch us off guard?

Scott PETERSON: You know, this brings up um…I’m just trying, you know I mean.

Brent ROCHA: I mean because if I’m gonna go out there and talk…

Scott PETERSON: I’m thinking about …I’m thinking about other relationships, but those were before we were married.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know, this was the only, you know, thing like that.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. Um…all right. Now I mean what’s the deal with this basket? You were supposed to pick up a basket for my grandfather?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah. Vella Farms, yeah.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah. And can you just...it’s somewhat of an issue. Can you just clear that up for me?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah. Well, if I remember right they were closing at 3:30.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: Um..so I called Laci when I knew I wasn’t gonna be back and um...left a message here and on her mobile phone and asked  her to get it.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: Cause I told Amy the night before that I would get it.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: Amy went out there and bought it and they didn’t have it ready in time.

Brent ROCHA: All right.

Scott PETERSON: And I don’t remember if I called Amy on her cell phone, but I don’t think I did.

Brent ROCHA: Well, this is just the National Enquirer, it doesn’t sound like any of the other news media picked up on this. But it seems like there’s a lot of detailed things in here. I don’t know where they got their information from, you know. Um...and...and some of this stuff like the life insurance, I mean how’s the Enquirer gonna find out about that?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah. You know…and you asked uh…you know, and if you want to talk to, you know, our financial guy?

Brent ROCHA: Oh, no, no. You know what, I’m just saying is how in the heck are they finding this stuff out?

Scott PETERSON: I mean shit, this stuff can be found. I mean how many alien stories are in there?

Brent ROCHA: I know, I know, it’s probably half-truths.

Scott PETERSON: You know, and …but I did get a call from um…I guess Channel 3 regarding that article so…

Brent ROCHA: Oh, they already called?

Scott PETERSON: _______________(inaudible)

Brent ROCHA: The media’s gonna be back in town?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah. And you know, fuck that’s good.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: And maybe we’ll get more down that way because …

Brent ROCHA: I know.

Scott PETERSON: …if it brings her back.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. Well I appreciate you talking to me because I was concerned, you know. I’m probably going on a roller coaster like everyone else.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: So um…that Laci’s still going on and everything?

Scott PETERSON: Well, I’m…. I’m gonna go back to the center and get some stuff today.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: Get ready to go on down there. I’m just…I’m worried how this is gonna…you know, obviously um…it’s gonna, you know, it hurts everyone at the center.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, I’m surprised it’s closed.

Scott PETERSON: So, you know, I won’t be welcome there. But, you know, I still want to go down there and, you know, open it up and work…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: …and do everything so…

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, yeah, I don’t doubt…

Scott PETERSON: I’ll do anything to get her back so…

Brent ROCHA: I would love to have her back, Scott. You know, I miss her dearly.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, I want to get her back.

Brent ROCHA: I don’t care where’s she’s at right now, I want her back one way or the other.

Scott PETERSON: That’s the way I am.

Brent ROCHA: So you can tell me honestly, okay. I asked you earlier this morning.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: You had nothing to do with this?

Scott PETERSON: I had nothing to do with her disappearance, Brent.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: I wish I knew where she was.

Brent ROCHA: I mean sorry to question ya, but I’m just…if I’m gonna go up and stand up there and talk I need to know, you know, the facts so I don’t look like an idiot.

Scott PETERSON: You know…you know, this should not have happened.

Brent ROCHA: Um, so who was out at the center, anyone?

Scott PETERSON: This morning I was with Don, the Chaplain, and Joan.

Brent ROCHA: Don and Joan?

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: And Terry wasn’t there?

Scott PETERSON: No, because Terry…someone called Terry last night at 10:00 and told her it was gonna be closed. I assume that it was Kim Peterson.

Brent ROCHA: Oh, okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know, and I just…I opened it up. I had no idea and uh…

Brent ROCHA: I think it’s the article, that’s why.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, yeah, that’s what I understand, that’s what Terry told me.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: That they didn’t want to get hit with all the media so.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah, it’s probably gonna be flooded down there. Was there media down there already?

Scott PETERSON: No, no, there’s none here at the house or anything either

Brent ROCHA: okay.

Scott PETERSON: But, you know, but I can imagine they’re on their way.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah. Uh…

Scott PETERSON: But God, one bright thin is they were, you know, they were kind of bugging out on us so…

Brent ROCHA: I know.

Scott PETERSON: Things were back for a week or two.

Brent ROCHA: Now are you gonna talk to the media at all? I mean because I know we talked about it before and you were gonna use it as a tactic…

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, my thing is, you know, when it’s necessary.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know, and that’s why I’ve been calling ‘em on the phone and stuff to keep ‘em interested. YeahI called ‘em all  yesterday.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: To tell ‘em about L.A. and, you know, and they asked me, “Are you gonna be there?” I’m like “Yeah, I’ll be there.” “Well, will  you talk to us?” I said, “Well, probably.” And so they’re like, “Okay, we’ll want cameras.”

Brent ROCHA: Oh, right on, good.

Scott PETERSON: And I tell’em all about San Diego as well and, you know, and their questions, “Are you gonna be there?” “Yeah, I’ll be there.” So they’re sending crews.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know, so that’s working out.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. You know what Scott, this is gonna hit your hard. This article is not very positive.

Scott PETERSON: You know, I can take the hits, you know, if we, you know, if he can get her back.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: I…I don’t care.

Brent ROCHA: I mean what do you think happened to her? Because you know what, I have no idea. First I thought the burglary, then I was  thinking…and then I went down to the park and, you know, I just don’t understand what...I mean do you have any thoughts?

Scott PETERSON: No, I mean the only thing…

Brent ROCHA: I mean did you guys have any enemies at the business or anything? I know you guys mentioned a pool guy.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, but, you know, I can’t see him doing this. I mean a dispute over…

Brent ROCHA: A grand?

Scott PETERSON: $800 bucks or something, yeah, you know.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: I don’t know. The only two things I have, ideas, are still the robbery, you know. They’re gonna bring that up right?

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Scott PETERSON: And um…you know, just someone that knew her routine and when she was coming back from the park or just leaving the  house.

Brent ROCHA: Okay.

Scott PETERSON: You know, just pulled over and grabbed her, you know, or down at the park. I guess that’s a possibility too.

Brent ROCHA: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: Okay, Well um…let’s keep in touch huh so we can keep on the same page and all that.

Scott PETERSON: Absolutely. Have you talked to your mom today?

Brent ROCHA: Yeah. I’m over her house now.

Scott PETERSON: Oh, are you?

Brent ROCHA: She’s not here. Um…she’s not doing so hot about the girl thing,  she’s pretty upset about that.

Scott PETERSON: I know, I know.

Brent ROCHA: So uh…

Scott PETERSON: She doesn’t need that. God!

Brent ROCHA: Huh?

Scott PETERSON: I don’t…I don’t know what to say.

Brent ROCHA: I mean there’s probably nothing to say right now, you know.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: Um… I mean, there’s just, there’s a lot of motive going on. I mean if…if I was an attorney I would say oh, the life insurance, oh this other woman, they could say the baby, you know, there’s just so many variables here.

Scott PETERSON: Sure.

Brent ROCHA: Uh…I just can’t imagine someone hurting someone over any of one of those. I mean a divorce can take place, you know, you  can just leave, you don’t have to hurt someone so…

Scott PETERSON: Definitely

Brent ROCHA: So it just doesn’t make sense.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah.

Brent ROCHA: Okay. Hey um…are you taking off tomorrow?

Scott PETERSON: I think so.

Brent PETERSON: Yeah, okay. All right. Well, then you’ll be back when, Saturday or Sunday?

Scott PETERSON: I’ll be back Sunday night.

Brent ROCHA: Sunday night? Okay, then maybe Monday we can get together or something.

Scott PETERSON: Yeah, that will be good.

Brent ROCHA: Okay, Scott.

Scott PETERSON: Thanks, Brent.
