Witness for the People:  Guilt Phase

June 15, 2004

Direct Examination by David Harris

HARRIS: Ms. Ramos, can you tell us where you work?

RAMOS: I work at Hera Medical Group.

HARRIS: I want to direct your attention back to 12/24 of 2002. Were you working for them at that time?

RAMOS: Yes.

HARRIS: And on that particular date were you assisting by answering phones that day?

RAMOS: Yes.

HARRIS: On 12/24 do you recall if the office was open the full day or if you worked part of the day?

RAMOS: We were there until 12:30.

HARRIS: So it was like a half day for the office?

RAMOS: Yes.

HARRIS: And during the day that you were open on 12/24, did you receive any calls or receive any messages involving Laci Peterson?

RAMOS: No.

HARRIS: Now, when the office closes at the end of the day, is there an answering machine that you turned on for the office?

RAMOS: Yes.

HARRIS: And does that answering machine screen all the calls that come in?

RAMOS: No. Patients are instructed if there's an emergency to go to the hospital, or they can leave a message.

HARRIS: And in the message, if someone leaves a message, is that checked once the office opens back up again?

RAMOS: Yes.

HARRIS: Was the office open on 12/25?

RAMOS: No.

HARRIS: Was it open, did it open up on the following day, 12/26?

RAMOS: It was open on the Friday. I don't know.

HARRIS: You recall that you weren't open on Christmas. Do you recall that you were open up the next day, whatever date that was?

RAMOS: Not the day after Christmas.

HARRIS: All right. So the next day that the office was opened up, do you recall that Stacey Josephson was tasked with checking all the messages that may have been left?

RAMOS: I called in sick on that day, so it would have been Stacey who took my place.

HARRIS: But as far as, as far as you recall, on the 24th you received no information or calls about Laci Peterson?

RAMOS: Not that I recall, no.

HARRIS: The People have no other questions.

Cross Examination by Mark Geragos

GERAGOS: Were you really sick the day after Christmas?

RAMOS: No.

GERAGOS: "No" you weren't sick?

RAMOS: No.

JUDGE: No other questions?

GERAGOS: I was going to ask her why she's here, but it's okay. Welcome to San Mateo, and bye.

JUDGE: Ms. Ramos, thank you very much.

RAMOS: Thank you.
