Kimberly Reubush
Witness for the People: Guilt Phase September 8, 2004
Direct Examination by David Harris HARRIS: Miss Reubush, who are you employed by? REUBUSH: I'm employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in their laboratory. HARRIS: And which part of the laboratory do you work in? REUBUSH: The Trace Evidence Unit. HARRIS: Are you aware of or familiar with the witness that just left, Miss Korsberg? REUBUSH: Yes, I am. HARRIS: Do you work with Miss Korsberg? REUBUSH: I do. HARRIS: I want to direct your attention back to 2003, and ask if, as part of the standard protocol with the FBI, if you did a review of her particular work on case number 030606003ME? REUBUSH: Yes, I did. HARRIS: And as part of that protocol, she had already done her analysis, then it's given to you for you to basically technically review and see if the results match? REUBUSH: Whenever an association is made by examiner, another qualified examiner then does a confirmation of that exam. HARRIS: And after you had finished your particular work on that, there was an item, Q1, which were hairs that were identified as coming from a pair of pliers, with the Modesto PD number of 144A. Did you take the -- one of those two hairs and provide it to somebody for Mitochondrial DNA testing? REUBUSH: Yes, I did. HARRIS: Do you recall which of the two hairs that you provided? REUBUSH: It was the longer of the two hairs. HARRIS: And did you package that hair up to give it to Mitochondrial DNA? REUBUSH: Yes, I did. HARRIS: How did you do that? REUBUSH: It went into two small vials, and then was delivered to Ms. Fisher, the Mitochondrial DNA Examiner. HARRIS: Did you personally give that to Doctor Fisher? REUBUSH: Yes, I did. HARRIS: People have no other questions.
Cross Examination by Mark Geragos GERAGOS: Did you do the exam on the comparison? REUBUSH: I did not do the original comparison. Miss Korsberg did. I did a confirmation which basically replicated that comparison. GERAGOS: And there were two hairs? REUBUSH: Yes. GERAGOS: And did you measure the lengths of the hairs? REUBUSH: I did not. GERAGOS: As you sit here, do you remember how long they were? REUBUSH: No. GERAGOS: Thank you. I have no further questions. |
