A woman who called police to say she could clear Scott Peterson's name is reportedly in defense team custody.

Defense team sources told KNBC-TV in Los Angeles that the woman is providing them with crucial information that may lead to the killers of Laci Peterson and her unborn son.

The woman reportedly alleges that the deaths are linked to a satanic or cult killing and that "crazies" are involved.

The district attorney in Modesto has no comment on the defense team claims at this time, the TV station reported.

Scott Peterson was arrested last month after the bodies of his wife and unborn son washed ashore on the Richmond shoreline of San Francisco Bay, a few miles from where he says he was fishing when his wife disappeared from their Modesto home in December.

Divers Monday finished up a four-day search of the bay for more evidence. Modesto police described the search as a follow-up investigation. Officials there said they've enlisted help from other police agencies, as well as the private sector, but do not plan to release any further information.
