Collected on: December 26, 2002
Collected by: Detective Rudy Skultety, Crime Scene Manager
Evidence Item No.: 12A-B
Reason: Found on the front porch, many stains
Received by: California Department of Justice crime laboratory, Ripon, CA
Received on: December 30, 2002
Case No: CV-02-010941
Request No: 01
Tested by: Pin Kyo
Bates No. for Report: 2126 (Skultety)
Results: Negative, nothing of evidentiary value
Initial Suspicion
Skultety doesn't specify in his testimony why the boots were collected, but I assume it's because they had so many stains that they were suspected of having been worn while Scott engaged in the murder or handling of the body.
The test results
Defense 6L-2 shows the boots on the front porch (in the courtyard) and Defense 6M-2 is Kyo's analysis (click to enlarge). The boots had a total of 35 stains that she tested for blood - all negative.
Conclusion
The boots were not worn in the commission of any crime related to Laci's disappearance.
