RECORDED PHONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN AMBER FREY AND SCOTT PETERSON: (February 1, 2003 at 1306)

PETERSON: I got something for you this morning and that was in there.

FREY: What’d you get me?

PETERSON:  Just something.

FREY: Hum?

PETERSON: Just something.

FREY: Oh!  You can’t tell me?

PETERSON: It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you.

FREY: Okay…you know…

PETERSON: Yeah.

FREY: I don’t understand why you’re gonna go to Washington. Um…they said it was just a hoax, that the girl was lying.

PETERSON: Who did?

FREY: Well, well, it was on the news and different stations about it cause they made such a big deal about it.

PETERSON: Yeah.  Well, I am obviously not trusting the media.  Until I talk to that detective and know what they saw, I’m not gonna make that decision to go or not.

PETERSON: But if it was even close to her description I need to see that tape because I’m gonna know better than anyone are if it’s her or not. And frankly the police aren’t even looking for her so they may not have even looked at it.  So it’s absolutely worth any effort if there’s a chance.

FREY: Okay.

PETERSON: I’m sorry that I…if I came across kind of strongly on that, but that’s how I feel.  Okay?

FREY: Ok, okay, I mean you do what you feel you need to do.  I mean um…I can understand um…their side, you know.

FREY: Good luck in Washington.

PETERSON: Thanks.

FREY: What…I was gonna say you don’t know when you’re leaving?

PETERSON: I don’t know if I’m going at all.

FREY: Huh?

PETERSON: I don’t know if I’m going at all.

FREY: Okay.  I…I think you’d certainly be probably wasting your time.  I mean my hopes were there when I first say that and I thought my God, you know, that would be just such a miracle if she was there but…

PETERSON: Yeah.

FREY: But, you know, that’s just my personal opinion and, you know, whatever that’s worth.

PETERSON: I’ll talk to those guys up there and see…

FREY: Huh?

PETERSON: I’ll talk to those guys up there and see what’s going on.

FREY: All right.  Well um…I’ll talk to you soon then, huh?

PETERSON: Okay.

FREY: Good-bye.

PETERSON: Goodnight
